Five women travel with men who want to marry. Only the women may propose, and only to a man whose deadline has been announced: they have until morning.
Love Deadline is a marriage-hunting show built on a reversal. Only the women may propose, and only to a man whose time is up: each man's journey can end without warning, announced the night before, and a woman who wants him must go to him by the next morning or lose him. Five women who have let marriage slip past them travel for up to thirty days with men who also want to marry, from Okinawa to Kyoto, Lake Biwa, Nasu, Hokkaido and a cruise ship out of Singapore, and new men arrive as others leave. Hidetsugu Shibata, Michopa and Nana Suzuki watch from the studio.
The first man sent home, Yuta, waits in a meadow and nobody comes. Saki, a yoga instructor who says she has met more than fifty men through dating apps, grows close to Taka, a quiet cosmetic surgeon. When his deadline comes she proposes. He cries, and says no: because she is serious about marriage, he cannot give her an answer he does not mean. Shii-chan, who once named an income of thirty million yen as her condition, comes to see that money is no way to judge a person, and later leaves the trip of her own accord when Keijiro, the man she likes, tells her he wants time with Anna.
From the first night Kei-chan, who works at an investment fund, is drawn to Nona, an actor of thirty-five, but she wants to know every man properly before she decides, and Okapi, a model and actor of thirty-seven, pursues her too. In Singapore Kei-chan's deadline is announced. Okapi tells Nona he wants more time with her, then sends her off saying she will be fine. The next morning she goes to Kei-chan and asks him to be with her with marriage in view; he accepts, and Okapi ends his own trip. No other woman proposes, and theirs is the only couple. By the time the series was released they had married, after Nona asked him to propose to her again, in his own words.

Why it matters
Love Deadline begins from a premise its own publicity states plainly: a show for women who let marriage slip away by being choosy. Its launch notes set that against the falling number of marriages in Japan and the reasons women give, from never meeting men who wanted to marry to a lengthening list of conditions after years on dating apps. The format gives women the only right to propose, then takes away the time to think. What it shows is less a lesson about choosiness than the weight of deciding against a clock. Nona said afterwards that the rule forced a choice she would have put off in ordinary life, and she still asked Kei-chan to propose again in his own words. Taka's refusal, made in tears because Saki meant it, is the other honest moment: a deadline can force the question, but not the answer.
