Be authentic, be receptive, express yourself — close to useless here, and not because women in Japan are more repressed. 建前 is not dishonesty, 空気を読む is a genuine skill, and 我慢 is a real virtue. Most of what is missing exists free through a different door she has never connected to it.SOURCED ESSAYThe Eight and a Half YearsIn June 2013 Japan suspended the active recommendation for the HPV vaccine. The vaccine itself was never withdrawn — it stayed free and available for the whole period. What stopped was the letter, and coverage fell to near zero, which is the cleanest demonstration this country has produced that a programme nobody is told about is a programme that does not exist. The catch-up windows have now closed. Screening has not, and screening is what actually catches this in individual women.SOURCED ESSAYNoticing at Forty What You Had No Word For at SixteenThe question that arrives is a category question — am I one, was I always — and category questions have been the wrong shape every time this library has met one. The longitudinal research found more than two thirds of women changing their stated identity across a decade, but the changes were between adjacent categories and averaged about a point on the scale. It also has a deadline almost nobody has been told about: 相続登記 became compulsory on 1 April 2024, it applies retroactively, and anything inherited before that date must be registered by 1 April 2027. And the sentence no office will say — you are allowed to throw things away.SOURCED ESSAY美容医療: The Market, and the Rights Nobody MentionsComplaints to the national consumer centre went from three thousand in 2022 to over ten thousand in 2024, and around one in seven involve physical harm — concentrated in the ordinary procedures rather than the dramatic ones. The regulator named two specific sales mechanics rather than issuing a general warning: manufactured anxiety, and the monitor contract. This page does not tell anybody not to have a procedure. It draws the line between a decision and a sale.SOURCED ESSAY迷惑をかけない, and the Half Nobody TeachesIt is an excellent piece of social technology and this page says so first. It is also half of a two-part instruction, and the other half was never issued: every system of mutual help needs restraint AND participation, because help only flows where somebody accepts it. Meanwhile the research says people underestimate by roughly half how likely others are to agree to a direct request — she is carefully adding up the cost of their yes while they are quietly feeling the cost of their no.SOURCED ESSAYThe Audition Nobody RegulatesHundreds of accounts offer sperm on Japanese social media, listed by height, blood type and university — and the obvious reading, that these women are shopping for superior children, is wrong. A spec list is what a buyer reaches for when nothing is verified, which is exactly why the specifications are the thing that gets falsified. The market is not evidence of permissiveness. It is the shape of a vacuum: the clinical door is restricted to married couples, and the one bill in twenty years that would have written rules kept that restriction, added penalties, and lapsed without deliberation.SOURCED ESSAYWhat the Money Is Actually BuyingFollow-up studies of women who froze eggs electively find that the great majority never thaw them — 5.7 per cent had returned within five to seven years in one cohort. The whole lesson was delivered anyway — and the woman at the mirror is not the villain of this, because she was six once too, in a doorway, and nobody ever gave her anywhere to put it down.SOURCED ESSAY春画: The Art Japan Was Last to Be Allowed to SeeThe first major shunga exhibition was at the British Museum in 2013. No public museum in Japan would take it, and it came home two years later to a small private house in Mejiro, over-eighteens only, to a queue of two hundred thousand. Edo printed this by the hundred thousand and gave it to brides; modern Japan could not hang it. The taboo is real — it is just far younger than anyone assumes.SOURCED ESSAYThe Appointment You Have Been Putting OffVery few women are avoiding a diagnosis. They are avoiding a room they cannot picture, in which something undescribed will be done to them by a stranger while they cannot see what is happening. The chair moves by itself.
