A wife raises another man's child as her husband's — takuran, the cuckoo's trick, told as a prime-time drama.
Miwa Kanzaki gave up a career she was good at to keep house, and five years into her marriage her husband, Hiroki, a high-flyer at a trading company, is charming to everyone but her. At home he belittles her and treats her like a servant, and she stays partly because he pays for her sick mother's hospital care. She hopes a child might mend things; he asks whether she wants one because she is bored. At a library she loved as a girl she meets Ryo Fuyutsuki, her gentle friend from junior high, who runs a fair-trade company and is about to leave to build a school in Africa. One night Hiroki rapes her. She goes to Ryo, and they spend one night together. He promises to come back for her.
Weeks later Miwa finds she is pregnant, and the news reports Ryo killed in a bombing in Africa. A DNA test says the child is his. She tells Hiroki it is his, and burns the test result with the divorce papers she had signed. But Ryo is alive: Risa Mizuki, his business partner, who loves him, let a dead colleague be taken for him. When the baby comes, Hiroki weeps over her, names her Shiori, a word for both a bookmark and a guide, and begins to change. Ryo returns and finds Miwa at the library; she tells him she has a family to protect.
Her friend Makoto, who was once cheated on by her own husband, sees Miwa in Ryo's arms, confesses to Hiroki that she has long adored him, and tells him her instinct about the baby. Hiroki takes a DNA test and comes close to ending his life and Shiori's before turning back. When Miwa confesses, he tells her to leave. Her mother dies. Hiroki discovers the other man is Ryo, whose company he was about to fund, and withdraws the money. Ryo apologises to him, still not knowing that Shiori is his.
Hiroki signs the divorce papers, gives up seeing Shiori, and sends Ryo to meet Miwa and the baby at the zoo, thinking the child may be better with her real father. Holding Shiori, Ryo asks whether she is his. No, Miwa says: she is my child. Ryo tells Hiroki that he is Shiori's father, and prepares to leave for his school project. On 7 January 2025, as Miwa sets off to file the papers, Hiroki runs after her: he wants to raise Shiori with her and carry what they have both done. She wants to stay with him too, and the three of them begin again.

Pregnant, with Ryo reported dead and her mother's hospital bills more than she could pay alone, she tells Hiroki the child is his and burns the paternity result with the divorce papers. When Ryo comes back alive, she tells him she has a family to protect, and when he holds Shiori and asks whether she is his, Miwa says no: she is my child. Hiroki learns the truth anyway and throws her out, and her mother dies. She resolves to raise Shiori alone, but as she goes to file the divorce, Hiroki runs after her, and she chooses to stay.

Hiroki Kanzaki’s story
Hiroki tells Miwa not to smile and treats her like a servant, while at work his boss berates him and panic attacks keep him from the office. One night he rapes his wife. A café owner, Asaoka, tells him he plainly loves her. When their daughter is born he weeps holding her, names her Shiori, a bookmark and a guide, and asks to be allowed to be her father. When Makoto tells him the child is not his, he takes a paternity test and comes close to ending his own life and Shiori's, until her crying stops him. He throws Miwa out, cuts Ryo's funding and then restores it, and sends Ryo to meet Miwa and Shiori. When she goes to file their divorce, he runs after her and asks to carry what they have both done, together.

Ryo Fuyutsuki’s story
About to leave for Africa to build a school, Ryo meets Miwa again at the library they loved as children and tells her she was his first love. The morning after Hiroki rapes her, she finds him there; he gives back the embroidered bookmark she lost as a girl, they spend the night together, and he promises to come back for her. Caught in a bombing, he is reported dead because Risa, who loves him, lets a dead colleague be taken for him. Home again, he lets Miwa go and forgives Risa's lie. When Hiroki cuts his funding, he bows to him: it was Hiroki who saved Miwa. At the zoo he holds Shiori and asks whether she is his; told she is not, he accepts it, tells Hiroki he is her father, and turns to his school.

Why it matters
My Treasure is about takuran, a word taken from the cuckoo that lays its egg in another bird's nest: a wife raising another man's child as her husband's. The series does not excuse the lie, and it does not make the husband a villain to justify it. Hiroki's contempt is real, so is the coerced night that precedes the affair, and so is his love for a child who is not his by blood. It asks what makes a parent, blood or the daily work of care, and how much truth a marriage can carry. It also keeps in view the harder fact beneath the melodrama: Miwa stayed with a man who belittled her because she could not afford her mother's care without him. The series topped the catch-up viewing ranking for its quarter with more than thirty-four million plays. Its ending, a couple choosing to carry the truth together, lands as a decision rather than a reward.
