A father sues a school after his son is expelled over a secretly filmed masturbation video; passed for adults only after the censors ordered changes.
Kanti Sharan Mudgal keeps a shop at the gate of a great Shiva temple and is among its most devoted worshippers. His teenage son, Vivek, taunted by classmates about his body and misled by quack remedies, ends up in hospital. Then bullies release a video, secretly recorded, of him masturbating in a school toilet, and it goes round the town. The school expels him as a deviant. Neighbours mock the family, the temple's wealthy priest tells Kanti to leave town, and Vivek twice tries to take his own life. Each time he is saved by a stranger, a messenger of Shiva, who tells Kanti that not everything done in private is obscene, that his son simply went too far, and that the blame lies with a school that teaches nothing about sex.
Kanti sues the school and the men who sold Vivek their cures, and argues the case himself against Kamini Maheshwari, the school chairman's daughter-in-law. He brings ancient Indian texts into court to show that his own culture once spoke of sex openly. He questions the quacks, and a sex worker the defence has called, whose son attends the same school; he talks about pornography, rape, and children knowing a good touch from a bad one. The case makes the news and the backlash spreads across the country. Worn down, Kanti signs an agreement to withdraw in exchange for the school's money, and is then struck down in an accident. At his hospital bed, the stranger rebukes him for losing faith, reveals who he is, and shows him that the televised case has already helped the priest's granddaughter tell her family about the abuse she suffered from her uncle. Kanti comes back to life.
He returns the money. At the final hearing Vivek speaks in court for the first time, and young people in the crowd stand up to ask for sex education. The judge rules for Kanti: sex education is to be made compulsory, and the school must compensate the family and take Vivek back. Kanti introduces the stranger to his family as the doctor who treated him, and the stranger drives off to see another patient.

Kanti is ready to leave town. Vivek's video has gone round, the school has expelled him, the neighbours jeer, and the temple's wealthy priest, a friend, has told Kanti to go. A stranger stops him: the fault lies with a school that teaches nothing about sex. Kanti stays and sues the school, the men who sold Vivek their cures, and himself, asking each for an apology and a few rupees to offer to Shiva. In court, scripture in hand, he bows to the sex worker the defence has called and names her a brave mother. When the backlash spreads nationwide, he signs away the case for the school's money, and is struck down in an accident. Shown that his case has already helped the priest's granddaughter speak of her uncle's abuse, he comes back, returns the money and wins.

The Messenger’s story
The Messenger comes in answer to Kanti's prayer, looking like an ordinary man. At a police station, where he claims to be reporting a lost bag, he comforts Vivek; twice, when the boy tries to take his own life, he pulls him back. He tells Kanti his son is not to blame, sends him to court, and keeps crossing his path with oblique advice. When Kanti gives up the case for money and is struck down, the Messenger appears at his hospital bed, rebukes him for losing faith, reveals who he is, and brings him back. After the verdict, introduced to the family as the doctor who treated Kanti, he says the lost bag, full of the old texts Kanti took to court, was his; he leaves it with Vivek and drives off to see another patient.

Why it matters
OMG 2 puts a question to India's schools in the language of its temples: why is a subject the country's own scriptures discuss openly never taught to the children who need it? The film makes a devout Shiva worshipper, not a sceptic, the man who argues for sex education, and roots the argument in a boy's shame, a quack's pills and a video that ends his schooling. The censor board, wary of sex education and religion on the same screen, passed it for adults only after ordering changes, among them turning Akshay Kumar's Shiva into a messenger, so the teenagers it speaks for could not see it in cinemas. Reviewers called it blunt, some approvingly; The Quint's critic noted that no one in this film about sex education mentions that the boy was filmed without his consent. What stays is the boy himself, left almost alone with his shame while the adults argue over what he should have been taught.
