Kyo, Suki ni Narimashita is ABEMA's dating show for high-school students, built on the idea of a school trip to find love. Teenagers who have never met travel together for a few days, usually two nights and three days, and on the last day confessions are made; on the first regular trip only the girls were allowed to confess. A confession answered with yes makes a couple, and their journey ends there. Anyone left without a partner may choose to go on the next trip, so some students return again and again. The first two trips were one-off specials in 2017, and the show became a regular series that October. Nearly eighty trips later, the studio's 'love witnesses', Yusuke Inoue of the comedy duo Non Style, the YouTuber Kasu, the actress Karen Otomo and the actor Daisuke Nakagawa, watch from Tokyo.
The graduation trip of 2026, streamed in February and March, took thirteen students to Dubai. Nine had been on earlier trips, and one girl in her final year was on her fifth. One boy confessed on a morning beach without waiting for the last day, and was turned down. In the final two-shot another told a girl, through a card trick, that he liked her; she had grown uneasy at how vague he had been and chose not to confess. A third told a girl she was the only one for him, and she decided they were friends.
The girls made the confessions. Two went to a boy who had joined midway, and he chose one of them. Two more went to another boy, who said he could not give an answer. The trip ended with one couple. Six months later that boy told the staff he regretted turning down the girl on her fifth trip, and a special trip for the two of them to Busan made them a couple.

Why it matters
Kyo, Suki ni Narimashita turns a teenage confession, one of the most private risks of adolescence, into a weekly national event. Its participants are high-school students, and the show is widely called a gateway into entertainment, so a first love can also be a first audition. The rules bring the unchosen back: one girl's graduation trip was her fifth. The cost of that exposure was stated plainly in March 2026, when the programme's official account condemned online abuse of its members, including edited compilations targeting particular teenagers, and said it would seek to identify the posters and consider criminal and civil action. What keeps the show from being only a spectacle is what it records about refusal. A girl decides a friend is a friend. Another says no to a boy who had been vague. A boy admits he has no answer, and months later that he regrets it.
