Storyline

A married woman's email — 'let's have sex tonight' — pulls a young man into her master's game; Danmitsu's screen debut.
The young man who narrates the story, credited only as 'I', has always found women easy. He has a girlfriend from university, Midori, and several other women besides. When he joins a publishing house as a mid-career hire, he falls at first sight for a colleague, Kana, a quiet, poised woman whose husband is posted to Osaka and whom she visits at weekends. He pursues her anyway. She ignores him, then tells him off. A few days after he gives up, a message from her arrives at work: let's have sex tonight.
That night she asks him to film her face throughout. From then on she calls him when she wants him, barely speaks, and leaves as soon as it is over. He breaks off with every woman but Midori and keeps his evenings free in case she calls. On his birthday Kana invites him to her house, leaves him a present of DVDs and goes off to Osaka. On them she submits in sadomasochistic play to a man she calls Sensei, and some of the footage is what the young man filmed himself.
Sensei turns out to be an unremarkable middle-aged regular at Kana's favourite bar, who tells discontented women that in a week they will be beautiful. That is how he found Kana, complaining about her colleagues, and day after day he trained her into his slave. The young man learns that his own meeting with Kana was part of Sensei's design. On a city bus Sensei makes a game of arousing Kana in public by remote control, then gets off and leaves the control with him. Midori leaves; his work falls apart.
At last Sensei summons him to a room where Kana waits, and tells him to prove his love by having sex with her while he watches. He cannot. Sensei takes her instead, one last time, saying he must let her go because he has grown attached, and walks out while she begs him to stay. Then Kana's face goes cold. Does he still love her, she asks. He says yes. Then, she tells him, be my slave.

Kana’s story

Why it matters
Be My Slave takes a familiar male fantasy, the composed older woman whose message says let's have sex tonight, and turns it inside out. The young man who has always had the upper hand with women ends up waiting by the phone, keeping his evenings free, watching another man with her, and finally handing himself over. Adapted from Shu Satami's novel, the film treats sadomasochism less as spectacle than as a school of power, in which everyone learns sooner or later what it is to be the one who waits. It was Danmitsu's first acting role, and Kana's composure carries the film's central idea: that the one who seems to obey may be the one deciding. The question it leaves is less comfortable than its erotic surface, whether what the young man calls love is anything more than the first time he has not been in control.
