No phones, no social media — ten singles spend ten days in Nice with only a guidebook, meeting by chance and by letter.
Offline Love takes ten Japanese singles who have never seen each other's faces, takes away their phones and every other device, and gives them ten days in Nice with a guidebook. They meet by chance or through letters left at a lounge in the city; until everyone has met, the only sign that a stranger is one of them is the same guidebook. On the third evening everyone gathers for the first time and each receives a wish letter, an invitation to a day-long date that counts only if handed over in person the day before. Kyoko Koizumi and the comedy duo Reiwa Roman watch from the studio.
Mimi, twenty and the youngest, meets Sho, a student and model, on the beach on the first day, and Aru, a dancer, soon after. Her wish letter falls on the same day as Sho's, and at his suggestion she gives it to someone new: Atsushi, a former national water polo player she has barely spoken to. She is drawn in fast, and when she returns late from a date with Aru to find Atsushi waiting at the hotel, she cries. Sho invites Kanaka, a brand producer, and they spend every remaining day together. Nanami, an actor who says love has never really moved her, writes to invite Kensuke, a comedian, before seeing his face; he never looks at anyone else. Yudai, an actor and model, takes Nanami cycling and pursues her to the end, while Tohko, an actor who has never had a boyfriend, falls for Yudai at first sight.
On the last day each writes a last letter naming a place to meet, and waits there. Nanami, written to by both Kensuke and Yudai, goes to Kensuke, and they leave as a couple. Atsushi and Mimi, and Sho and Kanaka, also finish the trip together. Tohko waits for Yudai, who does not come. Aru, who turned to Maho after losing Mimi, waits for her too; Maho alone writes no last letter. In May 2026 Kensuke announced on his comedy duo's radio show that he and Nanami had separated.

Why it matters
Offline Love removes the one object that now stands between most people and a stranger. Without maps, messages or profiles, ten adults have to find each other by walking the same streets, writing letters and waiting at an agreed place with no way of knowing whether anyone will come. The show asks what courtship was like before an app decided whom a person meets, and whether chance can still feel like fate. TIME's reviewer called it a look at what happens when people let go of the things they think they need, and critics abroad found it comforting. It is honest, too, about what the old way cost. With no message to send, Tohko can only stand where she said she would be and wait for someone who does not arrive. The show lets the waiting be as long as it is.
